Sweetwater Preserve Sweetheart Session
This sun-kissed sweetheart session shot by Tucson photographer Nathanael Tenney has everything you could ever want from a southern Arizona portrait session: a classic saguaro backdrop, mountains, and a stunning sunset. Nathanael’s clients, Megan and Carter, tell us that they move often for their jobs and they make it their goal to have professional photos taken in each location where they live. Megan shared that it’s important to them to capture their time in every city and to have images to remind them of the memories they made there. Megan and Carter were so thrilled with the way that Nathanael captured their love for one another, and the beautiful desert scenery, while making the session comfortable and fun.
We love this idea of marking a point in time with professional photos — whether it be a once in a lifetime vacation, a temporary home, or to document those moments before a life-changing event (a baby, a move, etc.). The Desert In Bloom
Today, I’m featuring some of my own work. As I drive around Tucson this spring, seeing all the cactus and creosote blooming, I am reminded of the spring of 2020, when getting out and seeing the desert in bloom was pretty much our only activity outside of our home. These images were shot as a sort of informal Pandemic Project — a safe outdoor activity, a way to be creative, and an exercise in trying to see beauty in the midst of a living nightmare. I’ve selected a few of my favorite shots to share here in our Wanderlust section to celebrate the incredible flora that manage to grow in our extreme heat environment. Much like humans living through a pandemic, these plants keep trying to bloom. All images were shot on analog film by As Ever Photography and film was processed by Photovision Prints.
